26-27- FunkFest A new spin on an existing festival, FunkFest celebrates the music of influential legends. Funk is an American musical style that originated in the mid-to-late-1960’s when African-American musicians blended soul music, soulful jazz, and R&B into a rhythmic, danceable new form of music. Funk brings a strong rhythmic groove of electric bass and drums to the foreground. Funk music was a major influence on the development of 1970’s disco music, and has even impacted house music and hip-hop. 23-25- NAS Oceana Air Show Beach Blast The NAS Oceana Air Show Beach Blast at the 31st Street Neptune Park (next to the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront). Includes a free concert. Made up of some of the Navy’s best musicians, performances are diverse, high energy and entertaining. A Super Hornet afterburner flyover kicks-off the show, and is immediately followed by team parachute jumps onto the beach. This is a free event. Parking is available in the 31st Street Parking Garage.

30- Oct. 2- Neptune Festival & Boardwalk Weekend For three days and nights, a host of activities such as the internationally renowned North American Sandsculpting Competition. Daily concerts alfresco in tented festival stages are scattered along 32 blocks of the boardwalk and feature a variety of live music. NOVEMBER

November 18, 2011- January 1, 2012 McDonalds Holiday Lights at the Beach
Boardwalk between 2nd and 34th Streets. Entrance fee for all vehicles. Thousands of cars make this annual trek to see one of the most festive and creative holiday light displays ever. Holiday music on a free CD is provided to make your journey down the Virginia Beach boardwalk magical. Jumping fish, surfing Santas, and playful mermaids will dazzle you.
