3, A 19th Century Town Celebration
1-4 p.m. New Bern Green Academy. Free. In the 1800s, the citizens of New Bern celebrated the 4th of Julys on the lawn of the New Bern Academy. Come attend a recreation of the celebration held there on July 4th, 1836- the 60th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Bring your own picnic lunch and join 19th-century New Bern citizens in patriotic merriment. 4, Parade & Community Picnic
An old-fashioned tradition continues in historic Beaufort on July 4 with a parade on the downtown waterfront that includes: kids, pets, wagons, flats and lemonade stands. Parade begins at 11 a.m. at the fire department, proceeds through downtown along the waterfront.

4, 4th of July Fireworks & Concerts

4, Cannon Firing at Fort Macon State Park
A cannon crew of volunteers in period attire explain the loading and firing of a typical War Between the States field piece. They use an original 6-pounder cannon in the demonstration and actually fire it with a blank gunpowder charge at the conclusion of the program. 252-726-3775
